On April 1st, 2025, Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences hosted its first Semiconductor Day under the motto “Chips & Chances – Your Way into the Semiconductor Industry.”
The event brought together more than 60 participants, including students, professors, and representatives from leading companies such as Infineon Technologies AG and SÜSS MicroTec SE.
Welcome and Introduction to the World of Semiconductors
The day began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Klaus Kreulich, Vice President of Hochschule München, followed by an introduction to the CHIPS of Europe project and semiconductor technology by Prof. Dr. Christina Schindler. Students then participated in a creative brainstorming session on the applications of semiconductors in daily life, exploring how these tiny components power modern innovation.
Industry Insights: “Where Will Semiconductors Take Us?“
A panel discussion with experts from Infineon Technologies AG and SÜSS MicroTec SE invited students to reflect on the role of semiconductors in Europe’s technological future. During this session, industry professionals shared their perspectives on emerging trends, innovation challenges, and the growing demand for skilled engineers.
Career Opportunities and International Perspectives
The morning continued with presentations highlighting career paths in the semiconductor industry, including job roles, research opportunities, and international study or internship options. Participants also heard firsthand experiences from students and alumni, gaining insight into global mobility and career development within this fast-moving field.
Hands-On Experiences and Company Visits
After a networking lunch, participants had the chance to visit two key semiconductor companies: SÜSS MicroTec SE in Garching and Infineon Technologies AG in Neubiberg. These excursions provided an inside look at state-of-the-art production facilities and research labs, connecting classroom knowledge with real-world applications.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Semiconductor Talent
The event concluded with enthusiastic feedback from attendees, who praised the combination of academic insights, practical exposure, and direct interaction with industry experts. Many left inspired to pursue careers in power electronics and semiconductor technology.
Semiconductor Day successfully strengthened the bridge between academia and industry, while underlining Europe’s commitment to building the next generation of skilled semiconductor professionals through the CHIPS of Europe project.
