Six Months of Momentum: CHIPS of Europe’s Latest Milestones

The past six months have been some of the busiest yet for CHIPS of Europe, and the results are worth celebrating. From a first-of-its-kind event for young women in tech to a new virtual lab going live, our partners across Europe have been turning the project’s vision into a hands-on experience for students, teachers and future engineers alike. Here’s a look at what we’ve achieved.

TogetHER in TECH: connecting girls across Europe

We kicked things off by hosting the very first TogetHER in TECH event, bringing together young female talent from eight European countries. Over 200 secondary school students and their teachers took part in hands-on workshops at project partner sites, exploring what a career in STEM could look like. The event was a strong statement for diversity in tech education, and a first edition we’re already excited to build on.

Bringing semiconductors into the classroom

Technology is best understood when you can get your hands on it, so we developed a comprehensive teaching toolkit that gives secondary school teachers engaging, ready-to-use material on semiconductors. To put that material into practice, we ran the “Discover Microelectronics” teacher school at Infineon Technologies in Villach, welcoming 20 enthusiastic educators. They’ll now carry semiconductor knowledge back into classrooms across Austria and beyond, multiplying the toolkit’s reach far past our own project team.

VlabS goes live

A major milestone: five modules of VlabS, our Virtual Laboratory for Semiconductors, are now available online. VlabS lets students explore semiconductor fabrication processes in an interactive, low-stakes environment that sparks curiosity, encourages deeper learning and prepares them for the real lab experiments that follow.

Summer School in Brno

Earlier this September, our Summer School on Chip Design and Semiconductor Technologies brought together students from different countries and disciplines for a one-week intensive course at Brno University of Technology. Participants collaborated, exchanged ideas and learned from one another in a genuinely multicultural setting, exactly the kind of cross-border exchange CHIPS of Europe was built to enable.

A new course on sustainability in semiconductor fabrication

Finally, we successfully piloted a new Master-level course on “Sustainability in Semiconductor Fabrication” at Hochschule München. Industry partners contributed directly to the course, sharing real-world challenges and the skills students will need to help drive the sector toward a greener future.

What’s next?

With this momentum behind us, we’re looking forward to expanding our activities over the coming months, and to continuing to drive semiconductor education forward across Europe.
