Project Overview

Europe’s semiconductor industry faces a critical skills shortage, with a projected 350,000 unfilled jobs by 2030. The European Chips Act aims to double Europe’s global semiconductor market share from approximately 10% to 20% by 2030.

This ambitious goal requires a significant increase in skilled professionals to design, manufacture, and innovate in the semiconductor sector. Without bolstering the workforce, Europe risks heightened dependence on external talent and supply chains, potentially compromising its technological autonomy.

CHIPS of Europe tackles the EU semiconductor skills gap by modernizing education, fostering industry-academia collaboration, and creating a strong talent pipeline. The project updates curricula, develops microcredentials, and offers hands-on learning through summer schools and virtual labs. By engaging secondary schools and promoting diversity, it aims to attract more students, including women, to semiconductor careers and strengthen Europe’s workforce for the digital future.

What are our goals?

  1. Tackling Skills Shortage
Update curricula, enhance training, and align education with semiconductor industry needs
  2. Attracting future talent
Inspire students, promote microelectronics, and offer hands-on learning via labs and industry ties.
  3. Building industry ties
Strengthen academia-industry links and ensure long-term knowledge transfer.
